Braintree FAQs

Below are the answers to some commonly asked questions about using Braintree as your payment processor for Classy. We also encourage you to visit Braintree's support center for more information and documentation.

WHO SHOULD USE BRAINTREE?

Choosing a payment processor really depends on your organization’s needs. Braintree may be the best bet for your organization, but we recommend comparing the processors we support to find the perfect match. You can do so with our comparison chart

 HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO USE BRAINTREE?

Nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations receive the following pricing: 

  • 2.2% + $0.30 transaction fee for Visa, Mastercard, and Discover
  • 3.25% + $0.30 transaction fee for American Express
  • 1% Braintree fee for any non-USD currency or card issued outside of the US
  • $15 flat fee for each chargeback
  • No monthly fees 

WHO CAN USE BRAINTREE ON CLASSY?

New and existing paid Classy customers are eligible to use Braintree as their payment processor. 

CAN CANADIAN ORGANIZATIONS USE BRAINTREE?

Yes, but the pricing structure differs just a bit. We have it listed below:

  • 2.9% + $0.30 transaction fee for Visa, Mastercard, and Discover
  • Canadian customers can provide Braintree their American Express account number to process transactions through Braintree. In this case, customers would be billed directly from American Express.
  • 1% Braintree fee for any non-USD currency or card issued outside of the US
  • $15 flat fee for each chargeback
  • ‚ÄčNo monthly fees  

WHEN WILL WE RECEIVE OUR DONATIONS?

Payouts for Visa, Mastercard, or Discover transactions process within 2-3 business days. American Express transactions process within 3-5 business days. 

WHAT IS THE PROCESSING CUT OFF TIME?

Braintree works off of Central time and they cut off transaction batching at 5PM CST. 

  • Any gift made Monday through Thursday before 5PM CST will process the next day.  
  • Any gift made Friday before 5PM CST will process Monday.
  • Any gift made after 5PM CST on Friday-Sunday will process on Tuesday
