Classy Passport Receipting Explained

Last Updated: Nov 15, 2017 10:21AM PST

This support article will explain how donation receipts are issued for Classy Passport transactions. There are two different configurations that will be discussed: receipting if your organization is processing in one currency only (by default this is in USD, United States Dollars), and receipting when your organization is processing across multiple international currencies.

1. Receipting for Single Currency Processing
2. Receipting for International Currency Processing

1. Receipting for Single Currency Processing

In this example, this organization's Classy account is setup to process only in USD (default). When a donation successfully processes, the donor receives a Donation Confirmation Email with an attached Donation Receipt PDF. The PDF receipt is issued with the charge currency amount and tax entity requirements (if a tax entity exits). The Donation Confirmation Email displays a confirmation message "You have donated amount to campaign", where amount is equal to the original donation amount in the intended donation currency, prior to any transaction fee and currency conversions. For example, if the donor chose to donate 270€ to the Classy Awards campaign, their Donation Confirmation Email will show "You have donated  270€ to The Classy Awards".

The email will also include a line item displaying the "Charged Amount", which will reflect the total amount charged in the currency that the payment was processed in. For example, if the donor selected to donate 270€ to the organization, but the organization is processing in USD only, then the "Charged Amount" will reflect the donation amount in USD.

The official PDF donation receipt is issued with the charge currency amount and tax entity requirements (if a tax entity exists). In this example, this organization is processing in USD. The donation receipt will also display the organization's information, which pulls detail from the organization's Settings Tab in their Classy account.

2. Receipting for International Currency Processing

In this example, the organization's Classy account is set up to process in multiple currencies, and has multiple tax entities. When a donation successfully processes, the donor receives a Donation Confirmation Email with an attached Donation Receipt PDF. The receipt PDF is issued with the charge currency amount and tax entity requirements (if a tax entity exists). The Donation Confirmation Email displays a confirmation message "You have donated amount   to campaign ", where amount  is equal to the original donation amount in the intended donation currency, prior to any transaction fee and currency conversions. For example, if the donor selected to donate ¥200 to Classy Canada, their donation confirmation email will show "You have donated ¥200 to Classy Canada".

In addition, the email includes a line item displaying the "Charged Amount", which will reflect the total amount charged in the currency that the payment was processed in. In this example, this donor donated to Classy's Canadian Tax Entity, and the Canadian Tax Entity is configured to process in CAD (Canadian Dollars). Because they are processing CAD, the charged amount will read $20 CAD.

Because the donation went to a Tax Entity, the Tax Entity-specific contact and identification data is included in both the Donation Confirmation Email and attached Receipt PDF.
